Are you planning to add a furry friend to your family? But are you in a great dilemma about whether you are ready for this big responsibility or not? If so, you have come to the right place for sure.
I am a cat mom of three cats. But it was not very easy for me when I adopted my first baby. Because having a cat is more than just having cute pictures and cuddling. They are living creatures who need to be taken care of throughout their lives. So before you sign up yourself to be a cat parent, you must check certain things to handle this big responsibility.
Cats have been very popular as pets for their undeniable cuteness and great companionship. But it’s not always easy to take care of your furry baby. There are lots of pros and cons of adopting cats. But don’t worry. Just believe that “Love comes in a package”. So the way you accept the snuggling, purring, and many adorable sides of your kitty, the same way you should accept their health issues, litter accidents, and other things. But Relax, we have got your back. We will share our personal experiences to have you prepared for your new feline friends. So just check the following points and match these with yourself to know if you are ready.
- You have enough free time
Cats need constant monitoring. They are creatures that crave attention but also need lots of responsibilities from you. Be it a kitten or an adult cat, they should be taken care of daily which will need a handsome amount of time. It will include managing their food, changing litter, grooming them, and many more.
Apart from this, a normal cat needs at least 30 minutes of playing and exercise every day to ensure their proper physical and mental health. You will also have to invest some extra time when they will be sick or have special needs.
If you are a student or a job holder who remains busy most of the time of the day, you might find it a bit difficult to manage all the time. So be sure you can manage enough time to spend with your fluffy baby. But believe me, it will be worth your time when you will see them waiting for you behind the door when you get back home.
- You can handle the cost management.
As cats will need lots of appliances and veterinary care, you should plan for an annual budget before you adopt your kitty. I did the same thing with my first furry baby, Leo. I sketched out a monthly budget including all their expenses and checked myself if I was actually able to handle all the costs. So if you are also planning to plan a budget about their goods and veterinary expenses, you can keep your eyes on our website.
- You have a good environment for your baby
If we provide a cat with the things they need in their environment, it helps them to be happier and healthier. So a good environment is a must for them. It will include a good space in your apartment or house where they can play, run, create cute messes, and practice their predator behavior. You will have to cat-proof your house and most importantly, all the people who live with you should agree on getting this furry baby.
- Ensuring the health issues of you and your housemates
As cats are furry animals, it is very obvious that they will shed. Some people have inherited allergic responses towards the dander, animal protein of their saliva, and skin. So check if you’re allergic to cats. For this, you can spend some time with cats in any shelter or at a friend’s house who has a cat to observe any allergic responses generated in you. Also, if your housemates are already allergic to cats, make a conversation with them if they are okay with taking antiallergic medications if the furry baby comes home. In the worst case, if you or your housemates are allergic, you can choose specific breeds that will trigger fewer allergic reactions. Also, if you have a pregnant woman at your house or any infant, you should select certain breeds who can easily socialize with babies and family members. - Ready to have a lifelong commitment
Cats can live up to 10-20 years. So be sure you are committed to your kitty to accept all her responsibilities throughout his/her life. Because you might have a lot of people in your life but that furry angel only got you.
So if you’ve already gone through all the points, I guess now you are a step closer to having your first furry baby. I know it comes with lots of responsibilities but trust me you’ll never regret it. They will be your unpaid therapist and creature you can count on. So buckle up and get ready to welcome the sweetest creature of the earth, your very own first FURRY ANGEL. Don’t forget to share your thoughts and pictures of your first baby. We are eagerly waiting to welcome your kitty too.
